Outreach Coordinator

The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for connecting the organization to the surrounding community through volunteer programs and community outreach activities.  Responsibilities include public interaction, volunteer recordkeeping, and management of program /event calendars.  Friends for the Abbott Marshlands is an Equal Opportunity Employer.  We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive work environment.

This is a part-time position requiring 15 to 20 hours per week.  Some remote work as well as occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.  The position reports to the President of the Friends for the Abbott Marshlands and is also responsible for adhering to relevant policies and procedures established by the management of the Tulpehaking Nature Center.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  1. Schedule outreach programs and events in the local community to increase the awareness of the Abbott Marshlands in a diverse local audience.
  2. Publish program and event information on website calendar and event registration site and social media sites as needed.
  3. Represent the Friends for the Abbott Marshlands at Community Events and recruit volunteers as needed to assist in the process.  This includes carrying needed materials and setting up an event tent and table.
  4. Work with Tulpehaking Nature Center staff and Friends project leaders to recruit and manage volunteers for specific projects as requested.
  5. Coordinate recruitment and recordkeeping processes for all volunteers.  This includes managing application files, volunteer timesheets, and other volunteer data.
  6. Assist in the organization of special events including donor/volunteer appreciation events and other fundraising intitiatives.
  7. Participate as a member of the Marketing/Membership Committee to align volunteer and outreach work with committee goals and objectives.
  8. Perform one shift weekly as a Tulpehaking Welcome Team representative, welcoming visitors to the nature center, answering questions, and providing general information about the Nature Center, the Abbott Marshlands, and the Mercer County Park Commission.

Additional duties and responsibilities:

  • May be required to perform additional duties as needed.

Qualifications requirements: In addition to the ability to perform each essential duty successfully, the following requirements also apply:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Careful attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate information.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn required computer software systems for recordkeeping and publicity.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, volunteers, various organizations and the public.
  • Self-motivation, innovation, and resourcefulness in doing whatever it takes to get the job done well
  • Interest in learning about the Abbott Marshlands and supporting its mission of promotion and stewardship of the Abbott Marshlands.
  • Spanish language skills a plus but not required.

Compensation: This is a part-time position starting at $15 per hour.
