Insect Discovery Night / National Moth Week

July 22, 2023 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Free

Please join Entomologist Eugene M. Fuzy for a night of Insect Discovery within the Abbott Marshlands!  This will be held in the Spring Lake Area of Roebling Memorial Park.  Eugene will talk about the different insects that arrive at a light trap – including moths! The experience involves very little movement as we wait for the insects to arrive with the dark.  Participants should bring folding chairs and a flashlight.   Long pants and long sleeve shirts are recommended to reduce insect bites.   (Bug Spray is OK, but please apply it before moving into the area with the light trap).  Adults and families with interested children are welcome.

Eugene has been featured on the History Channel’s MonsterQuest as a spider expert and has 22 peer-reviewed scientific papers.  He was a laboratory manager at Rutgers University for 14 years and still keeps exotics insects. This is his 9th year of arthropod-themed talks within the marshlands and he is very happy to share his passion and knowledge with you.

Program will begin at 8 PM, but guests are encouraged to arrive any time after 7:30 to set up their chairs for a prompt 8 PM start.

Program is free, but registration is required. Please register through the RSVP button below.

Cosponsored by the Friends for the Abbott Marshlands and the Mercer County Park Commission.
