A freshwater tidal marsh - an urban oasis.
Sat. Nov. 11. A D&R Greenway Second Weekend Walk, 10 a.m. – noon. Guide: Mary Leck. The Bordentown Bluffs, overlooking Crosswicks Creek, are part of the Abbott Marshlands. This part of D&R Canal State Park was preserved in 1996 by D&R Greenway. Culturally significant, part of the Abbott Farm National Historic Landmark, the area was first visited by Indians 13,000 years ago and from ~1816- 1842 was owned by Joseph Bonaparte, Napoleon’s brother. We’ll see thickets of Mountain Laurel and Rhododendron, look for persimmon and American Chestnut, and enjoy the autumn landscape. No wet walking as the trail is all upland; note that part is hilly. Meet at end of Stanton Ave., Bordentown Twp. (Take US-206 south of I-195; take 1st right after Pointe Breeze apartments. Look for Abbott Marshlands logo; street sign is missing).
