2016 LightRail

May 7, 2016 @ 12:00 am

Saturday, May 7
D&R Canal Watch light rail excursion will explore the path of the 19th century canal between Bordentown and Trenton. Meet 9:15 a.m.  Bordentown River Line station, 100 W. Park St., Bordentown.  Pre-registration strongly advised. Call 609-924-2683 after April 25th.

The NJ Transit River Line route follows the path of the canal from Crosswicks Creek to Trenton. See the abandoned canal, Watson’s Creek and the Abbott Marshlands. In the City of Trenton, where Route 129 is on the former path of the canal, remnants of the industrial and commercial buildings that lined the canal can be observed and compared with early photos.

In Trenton, participants may opt for a guided walk (3/4 mile round trip) to the State Street Bridge over the former canal (now the Trenton Freeway) or spend time in the Trenton Transit Center over a cup of coffee.

Meet 9:15 a.m. at the River Line Bordentown station, 100 West Park St., for an introductory talk before boarding the train to Trenton for this whirlwind tour. The return to Bordentown will be at 10:55. Round trip tickets are $3.00 or $1.40 for seniors. Please bring exact change or credit card.
