On April 16, 2014, nominated by PSEG, the Water Resources Association of the Delaware River Basin presented the Dr. Ruth Patrick Excellence in Education Award to Friends for the Abbott Marshlands, in Partnership with D&R Greenway Land Trust
The award was given for vision and leadership in developing and implementing environmental education and outreach programs for the Abbott Marshlands near Trenton, New Jersey.
Friends of the Abbott Marshlands would like to express our sincere thanks to our special cadre of supporters who have made this diverse array of educational projects at the Abbott Marshlands (formerly the Hamilton-Trenton-Bordentown Marsh) possible.
Ecological and archeological studies have provided the foundation for education at the Abbott Marshlands for many years. Numerous field and paddling trips have reached many students and the public. Other programs for school groups such as Rider’s PROBE for high School students, used the marsh as an outdoor laboratory. Many organizations, partners and volunteers have provided support and expertise. Thus, as in an ecosystem, there has been a web of interconnections, one stage setting the way for the next, that has led to the existence of Mercer County’s Tulpehaking Nature Center at Roebling Park.
Watch for the opening of the new Nature Center; dedication is anticipated during the Autumn of 2014. For information about the dedication as well as our events schedule click here. We look forward to seeing you at the marsh!
