Oct. 11. Family Fun Day

Despite the morning rain, Family Fun Day was well attended. Among activities were examining feathers with a microscope, finding small organisms in pond water, spinning the marsh wheel (correct answers were rewarded with book marks), face painting, making a beaver hat, etc.

Two animal programs, one by Jenn Rogers, featuring turtles and a live corn snake, and by Diane Nickerson, who was accompanied by a Virginia opossum, broad-winged hawk, great-horned owl, and bats, were popular.

The Tulpehaking Nature Center at the Abbott Marshlands is located at 157 Westcott Ave. in Hamilton.   The current exhibit includes the Best of Voices for the Abbott Marshlands, winning photographs from six photo exhibits dating to 2004, as well as panels that show aspects of the marshlands species diversity and Indian culture. On Nov. 22, the 7th Voices show, currently at the Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie, will move to the center and be there until April 1.

Photographs are by David Byers, except the corn snake by Mary Leck.
